Working on Content
It’s been awhile, I’m going to be blogging on things like removing Personal Antivirus 2010 and its cousins, Blackberry app reviews, and all around geek news. Stay Tuned…
I bought my wife this cute and nimble little netbook called the Acer Aspire One. After convincing my wife of the simplicity and stability of the 8gb solid state drive loaded with Linpus Linux Lite, she was still sketchy about it. We also opted for an additional 1 gb of DDR2 memory, which I put in later and was a delicate and nerv-racking task in itself. I found a wonderful site with a tutorial on one of Acer’s downfalls on the mean little guy at AspireOneUser.com. Out of the box this thing screams to a 16 second boot up and automatically looked for updates. The user interface is a four pane style interface with everything from Firefox and a Thunderbird inspired Acer Mail app. It has a multiple IM client, a webcam application, which does not support sound and kind of ticked me off. Skype can easily be installed with a few commands and there are hundreds of tutorials to personalize and make the most out of this sexy little thing. Acer has it set to “dummy proof” which is great for a linux novice so the don’t end up killing the OS. There is a restore CD that allows you to make a USB bootable thumb drive from another pc with a CD rom drive. In my opinion its the perfect accessory from paying bills to Starbuck’s blogging. It’s extremely tough too! It has survived a cup of water, half a cup of coffee and numerous trips in my wife’s purse.
If you need help on choosing a netbook that best suits you, just comment on my “Ask A Geek” section HERE

Well hello and welcome, if you don’t know me then you wouldn’t know that I am a huge Blackberry advocate and crackberry addict. Well a few days ago the Blackberry Storm, RIM’s answer to the iPhone with nuts, was released in the UK under Vodafone, meaning that there will be GSM unlocked models floating out on ebay shortly! So everyone mumbling and belly aching about Verizon having exclusive rights to this iPhone killer done worry. Verizon has yet to release it anyway and I believe they are timing it for Black Friday this later this month.
On to my favorite Blackberry apps, these work on most models but I have a T-Mobile Curve with WiFi (8320) so that is what my recommendations are based on. First Myspace has FINALLY finished the app and it allows photo uploads, commenting, status updates, etc all in a slick user interface. Just go to http://mobile.myspace.com and the link is at the top of the screen if you have a Blackberry. Next is Vlingo, which is a speech to almost anything on demand application. Features include Twitter, Google, Email, SMS, Voice Dial and quite a few voice enable features, all you do is setup a quick key on either side of your BB and Talk! It learns, has support for UK accents and is pretty accurate with picking up what you want as well as gives intelligent alternatives in case it misheard the command. Also repeats it back in a male or female voice. Check out http://www.vlingo.com/ for more info, definitely a must have! Also the New Twitterberry 0.7 Beta now has Twitpic support, its a little flaky but its a beta, still comes in handy when it works, best luck when using TCP APN for connection type. Another app I actually purchased was MiuTunes an Ipod like MP3 player with srollable Album art and quick playlist creation via a huge hotkey map. Check it out the Trial is available here. Also if you do not have OS 4.5 yet, you are robbing you and your blackberry of a true love relationship. Check with your carrier as most have officially released it. If you are leaning towards getting an iPhone, wait and upgrade, you just might fall in love all over again, and save yourself a bunch of cash. A few features include full HTML email, an Opera like browser that is a huge improvement from its predecessor, a voice recorder and the much anticipated Video Camera (Curve and Pearl only)! The resolution is mediocre at best but up to par with most cell phones with video. And last but my personal favorite, streaming video, yes Youtube, Orb, Slingbox etc!!!
So the very sexy Blackberry Storm, built to kill the iPhone and G1, however reports of prototype and beta versions say its extremely slow and laggy as far as the OS but expected for a first release. Check the links below for the latest on the Storm or anything Blackberry including free theme downloads and apps. I also love the Javelin, however not 3G its got a ton of power and all the features you wished all 3 versions of the 8300 series Curve had. It looks like the storm just with a hard Bold like keypad with the faved Curve size as opposed to the Bold which is nice but for some odd reason the Bold doesn’t do it for me like the 8900 or the mmm delicious Storm. I’ll look for an unlocked Storm from Vodafone on Ebay later today to just dream while laughing at the rediculous pricetag.
